Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the petition filed by the state of Maharashtra in regard to the border dispute with Karnataka did not have any legal provision since it has been filed on the basis of the State Reorganisation Act and Article 3 of the Constitution. Karnataka is fully prepared for an effective legal battle in the Supreme Court.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, the CM said a team of well learned counsels led by Mukul Rohtagi and Uday Holla will present the case on behalf of Karnataka. The State government has appointed retired judge Justice Shivaraj Patil for the legal battle. “We are abiding by the law as well as the Constitution. There will be no change in the landscape of Karnataka. The state’s stand and demand will be presented at the time of presenting the case. In this connection, an all-party meeting and legal experts meeting has been convened next week to discuss the line of argument”.
Bommai said senior politician of Maharashtra Sharad Pawar has been doing politics by keeping Belagavi border row but his dream hasn’t become a reality and will not become a reality in the future. The people of Jath in Maharashtra have put forth a demand for the inclusion of their part in Karnataka.
