On November 28, grand fest of the inauguration of development projects in Nanjangud

Harshavardhan is the driving force behind several projects in Nanjungud

Pragativahini News, Nanjangud: For Nanjungud taluk, November 28 is going to be a historical day. No fewer than seven development projects that would give the taluk a new dimension will get a big push when the Chief Minister, Mr. Basavaraj Bommai, formally lays the foundation for some and inaugurates others.

 A team of ministers, along with Mr. Bommai, is expected to attend the programme on Monday, which is jointly organised by the Endowment Department, Water Resources Department, Karnataka Neeravari Nigama Limited, Social Welfare Department, Energy Department, and Directorate of Municipal Administration. The programme is set to begin at 10.30 a.m. on the premises of Srikanteshwara Temple in Nanjungud. The projects total around Rs 200 crore, according to Nanjungud MLA B Harshavardhan. Plans have been made to accommodate 8,000 people to witness the event.

 Some of the programmes scheduled are the groundbreaking ceremony for constructing a guesthouse with 75 rooms at a cost of Rs 16.52 crore for the benefit of visitors to the temple; Silver weighing 250 kgs will be purchased from a bank by the deputy commissioner towards constructing a silver chariot to the temple; the Rs 30 crore Yediyala project, which aims at filling 13 tanks; a 66/11 kV power sub-station worth Rs 8 crore in Goluru; and the inauguration of Nayaka Samudaya Bhavan and Maharshi Valmiki Samudaya Bhavan in the town.

 However, the key project that would get a boost is the Nugu Lift Irrigation Project. The project had remained on paper for 35 years. With MLA Harshavardhan’s understanding of the project’s importance, he pursued it tenaciously at the government level. The MLA has accomplished a task that could not be done even by seasoned politicians in the area.

 “It is my dream to see that the villages that are lacking drinking water get the basic facility through the Nugu project. The tail-end area of about 10,000 acres and tanks in 40 villages would get drinking water facilities once the project is completed,” he says.

 Harshavardhan, soon after assuming office in 2018, began pursuing the project. He had gotten a blueprint ready for the Nugu project and had requested the then chief minister, Mr. H. D. Kumaraswamy, to approve it. The funds were allocated in the 2019–20 budget. However, the funds were withdrawn during adverse situations like the floods and the COVID-19 pandemic period. But later, Harshavardhan was able to convince the then chief minister, Mr. BS Yediyurappa, to revive the project and also get Rs 80 crore sanctioned. The tender process for allocating the work has been completed. When Mr. Bommai formally launched the project, the work on the ground would begin.
