Shivamogga, a future city: CM Bommai

" Will recommend to the Centre to name Shivamogga Airport as B.S.Yediyurappa Airport"

Pragativahini, Shivamogga : After Bengaluru, Shivamogga is the fastest growing and developing City, and a future city said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Speaking after inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for a slew of development works here on Wednesday, he said there is a lot of difference between Shivamogga before 2006 and the present city. Overall development of the district is witnessed everywhere. Works worth around Rs 1,000 crore were dedicated today. Distribution of houses under various housing schemes, giving away Hakku Patra to the slum dwellers, education, road, drinking water, urban development, and technology upgradation, all these people’s welfare programs are happening because of district political leaders. Work on the Shivamogga Airport had been completed within 18 months. Once this airport becomes functional, the district will witness developments in the field of education, industry, economy, tourism, and other sectors.

Yediyurappa’s name for Airport

The CM said the State Cabinet has decided to name the Shivamogga Airport as B.S.Yediyurappa Airport and a proposal to this effect will be sent to the Government of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate this airport to the nation on February 27. People participate in this function in large numbers.

Permanent solution for Sharavathi displaced families

Bommai said the State government is committed to providing a permanent solution to the rehabilitation of the Sharavathi submerged displaced families and already the survey work has been completed. A report will be submitted to the Centre and after getting its nod, the displaced families will be taken care of. The Government of India has sanctioned Rs 500 crore for the Shivamogga-Shikaripur-Ranebennur Rail lie project and the foundation stone for this project was laid by PM Modi during the recent millet utsav in Bengaluru.

Development is a continuous process

He said development is a continuous process and the Hakku Patras have been distributed to people living in seven slums. The allotment letters were issued to 3,000 poor families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The grants are released for the construction of the community bhavan, UGD, roads, drinking water schemes, and education. Two tall leaders, B.S.Yediyurappa and K.S.Eshwarappa have done the overall development of the district. The concept of development was introduced by Yediyurappa and it has been going on relentlessly.

The CM distributed the final allotment letters to 700 beneficiaries by handing over 288 completed houses out of the total of 3,000 houses under Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation and the State Government’s housing schemes; dedicated two lakes developed in Shivamogga city for Rs 3.48 crore; concrete road being constructed for Rs 25.30 crore; smart education project worth Rs 1.74 crore; UGD and Water Treatment Plant established for Rs 58 crore and new building of the Government Ayurveda Medical College built for Rs 15.41 crore.
MLA K.S.Eshwarappa spoke. Ministers, B.A.Basavaraj, K.Narayanagowda, Araga Jnanendra, MP B.Y.Raghavendra, former CM B.S.Yediyurappa, MLAs K.B.Ashok Naik, Ayanur Manjunath, Bharati Shetty, D.S.Arun, Mayor Shivakumar and others were present.
