Pragativahini News, Belagavi : The scientific community relies on effective communication to share ideas, findings, methods, and to collaborate with each other. In the recent times social media has emerged as the powerful tool to communicate your research findings and enrich the community opined, said Dr.Rajnikant, Head, Policy & Communication Division of Indian Council of Medical Research, Gorakhpur.
Dr.RajniKant advocated for researchers to develop strong & effective communication skills in both verbal & written communications. It is duty of the researchers to convince health policy makers and political leadership to implement the outcome of the projects for betterment of the community. He also called on young researchers to connect & engage with community to bring continuous transformation. Over 45 Crore Indians are on social media and is the most powerful tool to engage with global scientific community & opinion makers, added Dr.Rajnikant.
ICMR-NITM, Belagavi has emerged as an icon in research in the field of traditional medicine. Ever since its inception the Institution has passed through most difficult times and has presently got 13 scientists, 34 staff, research students & project staff which makes a total strength of 100 said Dr.Subarna Roy, Director of ICMR-NITM. Belagavi based ICMR-NITM is perfect amalgamation of research in modern & traditional medicine.
Dr. Roy underscored the importance of NITM is playing, wherein it connects the modern healthcare with AYUSH and folk systems. He also added over 70% population uses traditional medicine in one or the other forms. NITM is making consistent efforts totransfer the research outcomes, are passed on from the laboratory to the community.
Later in the day the team lead by Kaushik Bose, Vice President, Global Health Strategies, New Delhi, deliberated on Power of effective communication, Sanjana Chowhan, Sr. Manager of Global Health Strategies spoke on how to engage withmedia.
Developing key messages for journalist was dealt by SanyaSodhi. In a power packed program leveraging the power of social media was conducted by TamseelHussain, Founder &CEO, People Like Us create, New Delhi. Hussain highlighted the Instagram, Facebook, twitter & YouTube could be judiciously used to bring in desired results. Shardan, Director of Global Health strategy presented on advocacy for research findings and dealt with nitty-gritty of approaching policy makers to implement the scientific findings for better outcomes in community.
The session on social media for scientists & researchers was conducted by Dr. Enna Dogra. Quiz, exercise, group plays, case studies and interactive sessions were part of the two days training. Over 30 delegates from Hyderabad, Pondicherry, Bengaluru, Mumbai, KIMS, Hubballi, KLES Hospital, Belagavi& ICMR-NITM scientists attended two days training program.Dr.Subarna Roy, Director ICMR-NITM proposed vote of thanks.
