KLE Diabetes Centre Conducts Free Summer Camp for children with diabetes

Pragativahini News, Belagavi:  The KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital’s Diabetes Centre is proud to host a Free Summer Camp for children with diabetes on May 15, 2023. This annual event has been held for the past 22 years. It aims to raise awareness about diabetes in the community, educate children about the condition, and encourage them to lead a healthy lifestyle. The program will run from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and will include:

  • Free neuropathy tests.
  • Bone mass density tests.
  • Blood tests.
  • Sports.
  • Drawing and painting competitions.
  • Motivating activities based on the International Diabetes Federation guidelines (IDF).

The opening ceremony will feature Mrs Archana Sarda, a reputed diabetologist from Aurangabad, as the chief guest Dr Archana Sarda is a diabetologist from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. She runs an NGO called ‘Udaan’, which is dedicated to underprivileged children with type 1 diabetes. One essential aspect of care for type 1 diabetes is education is her motto. Doctors give a prescription and insulin to patients, but doctors often forget that they need continuous support and education.
 
This exclusive camp focuses on how everyone should take care of children with type 1 diabetes and the presentation of the Diabetes Centre’s Medal to two exceptional children. The guests will give one mother of a diabetic child attending the pediatric diabetes clinic. The event will be attended by esteemed guests such as the Registrar, Prof. (Dr.) V A Kothiwale; Director of KLE New Hospital Projects, Prof. (Dr.) V.D. Patil, the principal of KAHER JN Medical College, Prof. (Dr.) Niranjana Mahanshetti; Medical Director, Col. Dr M Dayananda (Rtd); and the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of KLE University Prof. (Dr.) Nitin Gangane will preside over the function. Type 1 Diabetes Children are encouraged to register for the camp, recognized by the IDF’s (Life for a Child) Australia. The camp will provide free glucometers and test strips, insulin treatment (FIT) supplies, and diabetes education kits for all children with Type 1 Diabetes who attend. The diabetes care team will be led by Dr M.V. Jali, Professor & Chief Diabetologist, present Medical Director & Chief Executive of the upcoming new KLE Cancer Hospital, and Prof. (Dr.) Sujata Jali, Professor of Pediatrics and in charge of pediatric diabetes at the KLE Diabetes Centre.
