People, people’s representatives, district administrations should think about cleanliness of the environment

You will also get to see the ugly scenes seen on the tour of North Karnataka.  Even though I went with a camera, it was a situation where I couldn’t take it out and show it to you for evidence. It’s not fair.If you want witnesses, you should go and see.  It should be seen as such.  It is really sad and angry that the people of many villages, men and women, children, women, young and old are celebrating “toilet festival” along the way.  This matter is serious.  The existing governments in the state and the current government have failed to make “open toilets banned”.  The efforts of the central governments have also failed.  It’s a shame.
While going to Navalagunda, Naragunda, Bagalkote, Alamatti, Muddebihala, Surapura, Talikote, Devara Hipparagi, Hoovina Hipparagi, etc., I saw it.
While passing by the many villages attached to the state highway, children were engaged in the call of nature on the roadside, girls were in groups, holding water mugs, searching the trees and bushes, youths getting off their bikes, holding water bottles and going to the fences, is this development?  Such a civil society?  It felt like, we were still in the 18th century. What is the result of the government’s Pradhan Mantri Shouchalaya Yojana, Nairmalya Grama Yojana, Swachh Grama Yojana etc. implemented to protect the environment?  What are the achievements of the local governments responsible for the construction of toilets?  don’t know.  Who will make the people of the rural areas, who are still engaged in open defecation aware of environmental cleanliness?
Public toilets are built outside the village.  There is no proper water system and it is not properly maintained.  It is very difficult to face them. maintaining is a total failure.
People in rural areas are not that much educated. Almost illiterates.  Cleanliness of the environment, creating a healthy environment is not in their focus.  They are all farmers.  They never have the attitude to keep the environment clean.  Awareness needs to be created by the elders and leaders of the society.  Besides, the state government should take strict action.  Local governments i.e. Gram Panchayat, Taluka Panchayat, Zilla Panchayat should take strict measures.  For that, distribution of banners, handbills,  formation of environmental protection force.  Whatever measures can be taken should be taken effectively.  The awareness program should reach door to door.  Otherwise the disease will spread wherever.  The whole environment is full of bad smell.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan should not be limited only to cities but should also be effectively implemented in villages.  Awareness programs should be organized for them.  Only then will all these be possible.  Village sanitation projects should not be limited to a few days only, they should be continuous.  Everyone should also be convinced that it is everyone’s responsibility to keep the environment clean and conserve it.  Otherwise we will have to face a lot of problems in the future.
Some villagers don’t want to go to washrooms.  They love to roam freely in the open and fulfill all their calls of nature.  So they should be made aware of cleanliness.  This is very problematic for women especially young women.  It should be mandatory to build a toilet at a distance behind the house, in front, side by side.  And going outside should be banned.
From time to time meetings should be held in the villages to create awareness about this.  And they should be continuously informed about the benefits of environmental protection and the programs undertaken for it.  This should be done successfully by keeping in touch with them continuously through social media, television, newspapers, distribution of leaflets etc.  Otherwise the same practice will continue.  It is sad that even in the 21st century India still bears the signs of barbarism.  People’s representatives are not even aware of this. They should call meetings of the officers and keep reporting on the schemes implemented from time to time.  The district administration should also participate effectively in this.  Efforts should be made to keep it in a systematic manner through Gram Panchayat and Taluka Panchayat.
No matter how many plans come up and held, this should be realized in the mind of every person.  We have to make an effort in that regard.  How many projects can be implemented?  All this is to be understood within ourselves.  People of every village should understand this.
